A Mother’s Grace
A flash of ginger
Flicked past my eyes
Curious, I followed its path
That led me deeper into the forest…
I wanted to see what it could be
What kept popping out at me?
At first it seemed like a blur
Then I knew for sure, it was cat’s fur!
And that led me deeper into the forest…
Before long I began to hear
Tiny and frail sounds
of random cries
I felt they were near
And that led me deeper into the forest…
With ardent determination
To find the source
I was rudely interrupted and taken off course
By the sound of a tractor…
I became distracted
And that led me deeper into the forest…
Fearing what might be
When I imagined the possibilities
I meandered closer
And there before my eyes
I found the clever disguise
A comfortable place
That kept 4 little kittens safe
Under the wonderful care
Of the ginger cat’s grace…

Heritage Hills
As I look out over our land
I see dad with his calloused hands
Driving his old red tractor
Making deep furrows in the earth
So passionate about the next crop
Working so hard, didn’t know when to stop
He taught me a lot when I was young
Growing up with his years of knowledge
We were a team, I wasn’t meant for college
Now he has gone
I feel his presence each day
When times are tough
I can hear his words
‘Don’t be like a weak little kitten
Stand tall and proud like a lion’
Although it’s still dark dad is already in the shed
I hear him start up that tractor
It is his ardent heritage that keeps me strong
I hurry to begin a busy day
